Deontay Wilder and Jai Opetaia moving toward deal to fight on Fury-Joshua card
According to sources, an agreement has been reached between former heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder and cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia to fight on the December 11 card in Cardiff headlined by Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua. The match would mark Opetaia's heavyweight debut. IBF champion Filip Hrgovic criticized the WBA's decision to sanction Fury-Joshua as a world title fight.
British press emphasizes that 41-year-old Wilder would be underdog against a cruiserweight, while independent sources report the deal matter-of-factly without emphasis on odds.
